Ric Lansing’s tables have turned in Port Charles! Once the mastermind of dark schemes, he now faces a shocking twist of his own.

They say turnabout is fair play—and on the August 26 episode of General Hospital, Ric Lansing found himself chained to a cot, a prisoner in someone else’s twisted game. Longtime fans couldn’t help but remember that this punishment was eerily similar to the fate he once forced on a pregnant Carly Corinthos back in 2003, when Tamara Braun was in the role.

Back then, Ric (Rick Hearst) masterminded one of Port Charles’s darkest plots: a disturbing plan to steal Carly’s unborn child and raise the baby with Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst). Now, decades later, Ric’s own captivity brings those shocking memories rushing back.

Rick Hearst sat down with Soap Opera Digest recently and recounted, “Fans bring it up to me constantly. For so long, it has been such a benchmark for the character, and a black stain on the character.”

Ric’s Revenge Against Sonny
Ric’s obsession began after he and Elizabeth suffered heartbreak. His pregnant wife miscarried when Faith Rosco (Cynthia Preston) shoved her down the stairs. Blinded by grief and unaware of the true cause, Ric blamed his half-brother, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), and sought revenge in the cruelest way possible—by targeting Sonny’s child with Carly.

Ric bought a new home and customized it with a soundproof panic room, complete with security cameras, a baby crib, and even a mobile. After drugging Elizabeth, he abducted Carly during Jason (Steve Burton) and Courtney’s (Alicia Leigh Willis) wedding rehearsal and locked her inside the hidden room.

Carly Fights Back
Shackled to a bed, Carly quickly realized the depth of Ric’s madness. He insisted she eat “for the sake of the baby,” making it clear he planned to raise the child with Elizabeth. Carly resisted at every turn, refusing food and trying to escape.

At one point, she managed to reach Sonny by phone, but Ric stopped her before she could reveal her location. Later, she broke one of the surveillance monitors and was electrocuted in the process. Despite Carly’s desperate fight, Ric continued to gaslight Elizabeth, convincing her she was imagining noises in the house. The Plan Unravels
Ric’s control began slipping when Lorenzo Alcazar (Ted King) uncovered the panic room and decided to use Carly’s captivity to his own advantage. Meanwhile, Elizabeth’s memory returned, and she went straight to the police.

By the time authorities arrived, Alcazar had already taken Carly, leaving Ric injured and exposed. Elizabeth was horrified to learn that Ric had drugged her and ended their marriage.

Sonny and Carly’s Ordeal
Carly’s nightmare didn’t end there. Sonny eventually rescued her from Alcazar, but danger struck again when Carly fell down the stairs at their new home. She went into labor, and Alcazar was the one who found her.

When Sonny arrived, gunfire erupted—his shot at Alcazar struck Carly instead. Sonny ultimately delivered their son, Morgan Corinthos, safely, but Carly slipped into a coma. Ric, never one to miss an opportunity, had his brother arrested for attempted murder.

History Repeats Itself
Ric Lansing may claim he’s changed, but his actions say otherwise. His recent blackmail of Alexis proves he’s still the same manipulative attorney who once locked Carly away. Now, being shackled in a basement himself might be a dose of poetic justice.
