A Prison Attack With a Hidden Purpose
The violent attack on Jen Sidwell at Pentville may not have been what it first appeared to be. What looked like an assault could actually be part of a carefully calculated plan to escape prison — and put Sonny Corinthos in the crosshairs.
Sidwell May Have Wanted the Attack
Before the assault, Sidwell had already made suspicious moves involving Alexis Davis.
He approached Alexis about legal representation, even though he knew her complicated ties to Sonny could make her unwilling to help him. Alexis rejected him.
But those meetings may have served another purpose.
Sidwell repeatedly presented himself as someone who was in danger from Sonny. By doing so, he created a story that could later make Sonny look responsible when something happened to him.
Then the attack came.
The inmates who confronted Sidwell reportedly claimed they were acting on Sonny’s orders. That detail could be crucial because it creates the appearance of a direct connection between Sonny and the violence.
But the bigger question is whether Sidwell arranged the entire situation himself.
Veto’s Secret Role Raises Questions
The most troubling part of the story centers on Veto.
Sonny made a specific phone call to Veto shortly before Sidwell was beaten. The timing immediately raised suspicion, including from Rick Lansing.
Yet the story may be pointing in another direction.
Veto could be secretly working with Sidwell while pretending to remain loyal to Sonny. According to this theory, he helped create the impression that the prisoners were acting on Sonny’s orders.
That would explain why the inmates believed they had permission from the Corinthos organization.
It would also mean Sonny’s trust was being used against him.
Why Would Sidwell Risk Being Beaten?
The answer may be connected to General Hospital.
Escaping directly from Pentville would be extremely difficult. But being seriously injured could lead to an emergency transfer to a medical facility.
Once outside the prison walls and inside a hospital, Sidwell could have a very different opportunity to disappear.
That makes his refusal of protection even more significant.
Curtis Tried to Warn Him
Curtis Ashford saw danger coming and tried to warn Sidwell.
Curtis urged him to seek protective custody and alert the warden. Sidwell refused.
At the time, his decision could have looked reckless or arrogant. Now, it may have been exactly what he needed for the larger plan.
Curtis’s attempt to help could also make him an important witness.
If police investigate the attack, Curtis can explain what he saw and heard. His testimony could unintentionally strengthen the story that Sonny’s people were behind the assault.
Sonny’s Family Could Pay the Price
The situation becomes even more painful for Sonny.
He has been trying to move away from his darker past and become a better man for his family. His relationship with Dante is especially important as he tries to build a future his son can respect.
A carefully constructed frame-up could threaten all of that.
If Sonny is blamed for Sidwell’s attack, the consequences may extend far beyond Pentville. His family relationships could face another serious test while Sidwell continues working from the shadows.
A Dangerous Game in Port Charles
Sidwell’s apparent victimhood may be the most dangerous part of the entire scheme.
If he arranged the assault, recruited help through Veto and made sure Sonny’s name was connected to the attack, then the violence at Pentville was only one part of a much larger plan.
And Sonny may not yet realize how deeply he has been drawn into it.
Meanwhile, Curtis could find himself caught in the middle simply because he tried to do the right thing.
The biggest question now is whether the truth about Sidwell’s plan will come out before Sonny pays the price for a crime he may not have committed.
