General Hospital recap, Friday, October 9, 2026
Sonny has spent days insisting he never ordered the Pentonville beating that nearly killed Curtis and Sidwell. On Friday, the person whose opinion matters most to him gave his answer — and it wasn’t the one Sonny wanted.
“I don’t know. I can’t.”
Gio sat Sonny down and broke the news: “Emma and I have been talking. We have decided to take the next step… the living together next step.” Sonny said he was happy for him — then asked the real question: was Gio moving in with Emma because he thinks it’s time, or because Dante insisted, since Dante believes Sonny is “responsible for the beating of Sidwell and Curtis”?
Gio’s answer was painful to watch. “You mean so much to me. I’m so grateful to you for letting me in after the truth came out about my parents. But if you’re asking if I can believe you, I… I don’t know. I can’t.”
Sonny didn’t fight it. “I’m sorry about yesterday, where everything got out of hand. But your father’s a good man. He’s a good cop. I would never ask you to go against him. So if Dante wants you to move out, move out.” Gio: “I appreciate you saying that, but this is my decision. I stand by it.”
Gio’s two reasons
Gio laid it out: “There’s a couple of reasons why I can’t stay with you. Yes, my dad is one of them, but the other’s Trina.” He said he and Trina have “gotten really close recently,” and staying under Sonny’s roof “knowing what her dad said about you” would hurt her.
Sonny told Gio he’s “a terrific grandson” and “I love you,” then admitted: “When everybody everywhere thinks you’re guilty, I guess it’s payback for the life that I lived. But what would make it worse is having my grandson right in the middle of everything.”
Emma to Sonny: “Then so do I”
When Emma arrived to help pack, Sonny called the Pentonville attack “this whole thing” — and Emma corrected him: “Curtis and Sidwell were nearly beaten to death.” Sonny: “I’m very, very sorry about Curtis. But that’s not on me. I know everybody thinks it is.” Emma said Gio “never ever thought that you were capable of something like this. Not until he did,” and drew her line: “If Trina believes her dad, then so do I.” Sonny’s vow: “I’m going to prove that I’m innocent. For Gio’s sake.”
Who’s paying for the new place
Earlier, over tea, Emma asked her grandmother Anna a favor: “Would you co-sign on a lease for me and Gio?” Anna’s reply: “I’m in.” She refused to let Emma cover it herself — “Just send me over the lease and I will sign it and I will put down the deposit” — though she draws “the line at putting together furniture.” Emma explained the rush: Gio “can’t stay at his grandfather’s house for one more night,” because “Trina believes that Sonny is the one responsible for her father’s beating in prison.”
