The Young and the Restless, Wednesday, October 14, 2026 (CBS). Tuesday ended with “Hello, Sharon.” Wednesday was the conversation that followed, and it was not the one anyone expected: Matt Clark did not threaten Sharon. He begged her.
How he got past Victor’s security
Sharon’s first question was the obvious one: how did he get onto the ranch? Matt’s answer, per Soaps.com’s recap, was that he hid in the trunk of her car after she left Crimson Lights. Nobody checks the trunk of Sharon’s own car at the gate. “I know I’m not going about this the right way,” he told her, “but I couldn’t think of another way that I could get you alone so I could talk to you. No one else can know that I’m here. Especially not Phyllis. Not Victor. Not Nick.”
Sharon was not having it. “You broke into my house and now you want my help. You’re not even supposed to be here. You promised me that you would leave town.” She threatened to call security, then the police. Matt’s reply: “I can’t leave until it stops.” She asked what. “All of it. The thoughts and the violence and the pain.”
What he says happened in the car
Then came the part the whole town has been guessing at since the empty, crashed car was found. Matt says he took Patty Williams out of town to talk her into turning herself in. “It was a long shot, but I thought I owed it to everybody to try.” In the car, he claims, he was making progress — “but then she grabs the wheel and she drives us off the road.” When he came to, Patty was gone. “She wasn’t there when I woke up.”
And after the crash, he says, something changed. “Like a live wire in my brain. All of the old feelings. Hatred, evil. I need to destroy everyone. I need to destroy everything.” He calls it the darkness: “So the darkness is back. And it’s trying to control me, Sharon. It’s trying to dominate, and it’s eating me alive.” Then, the line that cracked her: “I’m scared. I’m really scared. I don’t know what’s going to happen if I stay like this.”
The fire poker
Sharon’s eyes went to the poker by the fireplace. Matt saw it. “Go ahead and grab it. Come on, Sharon. Maybe you knock the violence out of me again. Worked the last time. Or better yet, maybe you just end me. Put everybody out of their misery.” Sharon: “I wouldn’t want that on my conscience.” Matt: “No one would blame me. There’s an expression — no jury would convict. I think it applies in this case.”
What Sharon did instead was interrogate him like the counselor she is. Did he ever see a doctor after Sienna knocked him out? He says he did, and was told he was “normal.” Sharon had done her homework: “A blow to the head can affect someone’s memory or personality, but there is no evidence at all that it would change someone’s conscience.” And the verdict she has been sitting on for months: “You spent most of your life lying, lying to everybody, and you were very, very good at it. The conscience never lies.”
Matt’s answer was the most honest thing he has said since Halloween: “Yes, I am a monster. Yes, I’ve done monstrous things. But also, I’m not such a bad guy. There is a good in me, and you know it.” Minutes later the other Matt surfaced — “Don’t give me that psychobabble. That’s for the chumps in the peanut gallery” — and then collapsed again, sobbing, “I hate the things that I’ve done in my life. I hate myself. I hate myself.”
Why this is Sharon, of all people
Matt Clark arrived in Genoa City in 1994 as the teenager who lost Sharon to Nick and raped her for it. He framed Nick for his own shooting, came back with a new face, drugged Tricia McNeil and tried to assault Sharon again, and finally yanked out his own breathing tube to frame Nick for murder. He resurfaced in October 2025, played by Roger Howarth, with amnesia after Sienna hit him with a rock, swearing he was a changed man. Sharon is the one person in town who never hated him out loud. That, he told her Wednesday, is exactly why he is in her living room.
What’s next
Nick knocked on that door before the hour was out — his reaction is a story of its own. Soaps.com’s spoiler for Thursday says Victor stays one step ahead of Victoria, and that Sally begins her introduction into the Abbott family as the wedding week turns to Billy and Sally.
Your call: Is this a man genuinely losing a war inside his own head, or the best performance Matt Clark has ever given? And should Sharon have reached for that poker?
