Young and the Restless: Sharon Agrees to Be Matt Clark's Therapist — Her Exact Conditions, and the Line Nick Threw in Matt's Face

Based on the CBS episode of Friday, October 16, 2026.

While the Abbotts were dressing for Billy and Sally’s wedding, the real fight of Friday’s episode happened in Sharon’s cottage. Nick had spent the night there keeping watch; Matt Clark was asleep on the couch. “It’s hard to sleep and keep an eye on him,” Nick told Sharon. Sharon had already made a call: “Before I came downstairs, I made a call to the clinic I think he should enter. I just hope that he’s willing to be admitted.” Nick’s answer: “Let’s just wait and see which Matt wakes up before he’s shown a bunch of compassion… If he wakes up wanting anything else, I’m going to have to handle this.”

“There’s only one way that’s going to happen”

Matt woke up in his quiet, apologetic mode. He asked Sharon how she was, and she asked about his head and his thoughts. “Last night you were talking about wanting to die. I hope you didn’t mean that.” Matt: “You want to know? I absolutely did. Then I thought about what you said about how I don’t have to do this alone… and that gave me some hope. You really think it’s possible that a guy like me could ever be normal, whatever that is?” Sharon: “I absolutely believe it’s possible.”

Nick was not in the mood. “Is he reformed? Isn’t he? I don’t care anymore. I just want him out of our lives for good.” Matt heard it. “You want me out of your life for good? There’s only one way that’s going to happen.” Nick: “Is that some kind of threat?” Matt: “Okay, relax, dude. This isn’t like super psycho Matt guy. This is more like pathetic and embarrassed guy who cried his eyes out last night.”

Then came the condition. Matt said he was ready for “a safe place like what Sharon was talking about” — “I think I’m ready. I do have one small condition.” Nick: “You knew there was going to be a catch. What is the condition?” Matt: “I want you to be my therapist.”

“How twisted are you?”

Nick exploded. “You want me to be your therapist? Are you kidding me? How twisted are you?” Matt’s defence was that “Sharon is a psychologist. She knows all about psychology.” Nick laid out the history in one breath: “You raped her and violated her. You tried to kill her and me and my son, and now we’re supposed to forget all of that just so she can help you feel better about yourself.” He told Matt to get out of the house. Sharon tried to keep it clinical: “I think the priority here is just getting you settled in the clinic. I’ve arranged for you to be admitted. Once that happens, we can discuss the viability of my treating you.”

Matt did not accept the delay. “You overseeing my treatment is the only way I get through this… I hate to be this guy, but if you turn me down, it’s kind of a deal breaker.” Nick: “You are in no position to call the shots.” Matt: “Slow your roll, bro. This is between me and Sharon. No one else.” Matt summed up his offer as he left the room: “You want me out of your life, right? Here’s the deal. I check myself into a psychiatric hospital and Sharon is my therapist.”

Nick and Sharon, alone

“Sharon, do not tell me that you are considering this,” Nick said. “You can’t let him manipulate you with all those tears and headaches.” Sharon: “Nick, please give me a little credit for knowing my own mind.” Nick: “You being in a position where he can get inside your head — I can’t allow that.” Sharon’s answer is the heart of the episode: “I’m just as familiar with what’s inside Matt’s head, all of the darkness, the hatred. I’ve lived it… I’m not just doing this for him. I’m doing it because he could bring us peace. We could live our lives without constantly looking over our shoulders. It’s the one thing I know that could keep our family safe.” Nick: “No. There are other ways to do that.” Sharon: “I’ve made a decision.”

Her exact conditions

When Matt came back, Sharon told him: “I have decided. I’ll help you.” Then the terms. “I do have some conditions of my own, though. You need to be prepared for the very real possibility that I may not be able to help you. There’s just too much history between us. If that’s the case, you need to accept another therapist in my place.” Matt: “If you’re willing to give this a try, then so am I.” No guarantee, a clinic first, and a replacement therapist if she cannot do it — those are the three conditions Sharon set.

Why Nick’s list is not exaggeration

Soap Central’s character history records that Matt Clark raped Sharon as a teenager to get back at Nick, later drugged her drink as “Carter Mills”, framed Nick for shooting him and for drug dealing, and finally framed Nick for his own murder by pulling out his own breathing tube. Matt returned to Genoa City in late October 2025, now played by Roger Howarth; in the last two weeks he survived a car crash, ambushed Sharon in her own home, and on Wednesday Nick found him inside the cottage (see the dated recaps below).

What’s next

Soaps.com’s spoilers for the week of October 19 say that on Tuesday “Nick forces Sharon to make a tough decision,” and that later in the week “Victor interrogates Nick.” The weekly summary adds that “Sharon’s faced with a difficult choice to make.”

Your call: Is Sharon the only person who can actually end this — or is Nick right that Matt just found a new way inside her head?
