After the CBS episode of Friday, October 16, 2026: the Great Gatsby wedding has begun at the Club, and the one Abbott missing is the groom’s mother.
Soaps.com’s spoiler for Tuesday, October 20 reads: “Cane shares distressing news with the groom. How bad off is Jill?” The CBS preview, as described by Soap Opera Digest and Soap Hub, shows Billy taking a call at the reception — “A three-way call with Cane, why?” — and asking, “Snapper, is my mom okay?” Here is everything that led to that call, dated, with the lines as the recaps print them.
The timeline
May 29, 2024 — the diagnosis. On a video call from London, Jill told Billy she was being treated by her brother Snapper for heart trouble: “There are some complications, Billy.” Her instruction about Chancellor: “Protect its legacy, Billy.” Billy’s answer: “I’m just getting started.”
October 15, 2024 — the ultimatum. Jill: “Right the ship, Billy. Fire Phyllis. Make up with Lily.” Billy: “Or what?”
November 14, 2024 — the sale. At Abby and Devon’s wedding, Jill sold Chancellor to Victor Newman. To Lily: “I am selling Chancellor to Victor. It is over.” And: “My own body is betraying me.” To Billy: “It’s over, it’s out of my hands!” Billy: “You do have a choice. And if you go through with this, there’s no coming back.”
November 26, 2024 — the hang-up. Jill, by video: “I wanted you to succeed.” Billy: “Oh, the sick card.” He ended the call.
August 5, 2025 — the Dumas secret. Cane revealed that Jill had known all along he was “Aristotle Dumas.” Billy to Jill on the phone: “You knew about him all along, didn’t you?” and then, “No wonder she wasn’t missing me.”
June 29 – July 2026 — Jill’s visit. With Jess Walton unable to travel, Lauren Koslow played Jill for a short run (Soap Opera Digest). Jill arrived as Billy announced his engagement and the baby, said she had sold Chancellor “back to Victor” without anger, and on July 9 admitted her illness had forced her to prepare for death. Billy’s line that day: “Why are you here, mom?” He went to London, came back early after a fight, and on July 24 asked Cane, “Do you know what Jill’s hiding? Have you known all along?”
September 23–24, 2026 — the invitation. Billy, after learning Sally had been texting his mother: “My mother has given me so many sad days, but this wedding day will not be one of them.” The next day Traci told him, “Jill is not well.” Billy called Jill; she would come if there was no fighting on the day.
October 8 — the brooch. Chelsea delivered Jill’s “something blue,” Katherine Chancellor’s brooch, with a note: “The old battle axe would have loved you, Sally, and be overjoyed about this baby as am I.”
October 13 — the regrets. Jill could not travel — more tests. Billy: “What if this is serious?” and “How bad is it?” Cane: “Go see her. Stop wasting time.”
October 16 — the wedding begins. Sally paused to say how much she wished Jill could be there; at the reception the talk turned to Jill not coming “due to a medical issue.”
Who Snapper is
Dr. William “Snapper” Foster Jr. is Jill’s older brother, one of the show’s original 1973 characters. William Gray Espy played him first; David Hasselhoff took over from 1975 to 1982 and came back for a few episodes in 2010 — Snapper’s last on-screen visit. Since 2024 the story has placed him in London as the doctor treating Jill. In this week’s preview he is heard on the phone, not seen, and no outlet has named an actor.
Jason Thompson (Billy) told TV Guide, via Soap Opera Digest: “there’s something pretty serious that goes down with Jill, and it throws everything into the blender in that moment.” No source says what Snapper or Cane tells Billy.
Your turn: Jill sold Billy’s company to Victor and kept Cane’s secret — but she is sick and sent Katherine’s brooch. Should Billy have gone to London before his wedding?
