Carly Spencer walked into Anna Devane’s office on Wednesday’s General Hospital with one favor to ask about Josslyn. She walked out having talked her own boyfriend into therapy sessions with a woman he once loved — a woman who just warned Carly that his feelings for her “bordered on obsessive.”
The favor
Despite Carly’s “best efforts,” Joss has made it clear she wants a career with the WSB. So Carly asked Anna directly: “Will you be her mentor? Please give her the benefit of your experience. Help Josslyn survive the WSB.”
Anna’s answer stopped the room. “I absolutely cannot do that,” she said — and then asked whether Carly knew what she almost did to Britt. “I tried to kill her. Carly, I was hallucinating… I thought she was a threat to my family. I completely lost touch with reality.” Anna said she doesn’t fully trust her own judgment right now. She’s seeing a psychiatrist at GH, Dr. Nichols, after being held under Wyndemere, drugged and made to believe Faison was still alive.
The suggestion Anna didn’t want
Her doctor wants to bring in someone who knew Anna and Faison “back then.” The only two people left from that period are Robert — happily settled in France with Holly — and Valentin. Anna didn’t want to ask him: “Valentin’s feelings for me at times have bordered on obsessive,” she told Carly, adding that he’d moved past that and she didn’t want to “dredge it up.”
Carly pushed anyway. “If you can’t trust yourself, bring somebody in who you can trust.” And when Anna asked whether it bothered her — Valentin going into therapy with “someone that he once loved” — Carly didn’t blink: “If Jason were in your situation, I would do whatever it took to help him. I expect Valentin to do the same.” If Anna wants to support their relationship, Carly said, “then do everything you can to get well — and let Valentin be a part of the process.”
Why Carly really cares
Anna asked the obvious question: why is her mental health so important to Carly? Carly’s answer explains the whole scene: “Because when I look at you, I see my daughter’s future.” Faison came into Anna’s life because of the WSB, and Carly is terrified the Bureau will do the same to Joss.
What’s next
Friday’s spoilers say “Anna offers her expertise” (Entertainment Now) — the spoiler doesn’t say to whom. Whether that means Joss, the WSB, or someone else is the open question.
