The Young and the Restless, Wednesday, October 14, 2026 (CBS). Nick came to the cottage to check on Sharon. He found Matt Clark standing in her living room, and the last ten minutes of the episode were a three-way standoff between a man who wants Matt gone, a woman who wants him treated, and a man who says he would rather be dead.
“Tell me now!”
Matt heard the knock first. “You should let him in,” he told Sharon. “You’ll feel safer. Because I know you’re afraid of me, Sharon. And you probably should be.” Nick walked in, saw him, and went straight to the questions everyone has: “Is Patty with you?” Matt: “Who’s Patty? She bolted after the car crash. I have no idea where she is.” Nick: “What are you doing here? And how did you get on this ranch?” Then, when the answer did not come fast enough: “You tell me what you’re doing here. Tell me now!”
Sharon tried to slow him down. “Nick, it’s not what you think.” Nick: “Oh, sure it is. This bastard never changes. He just pretends to. All that talk about wanting to prove yourself and leave town, it’s just a bunch of lies. It’s all part of a con.” Sharon: “He came here asking for help. It’s the truth. I’ve seen it. He’s struggling. I know that sounds strange coming from me after everything that he’s done, but I’ve seen how hard he’s fighting. He wants to change.”
Matt’s offer to Nick
Nick was done listening. “He deserves nothing except what is coming to him. I’m not doing what I should have done when he first came back into our lives. I’m going to end this now.” Sharon: “Nick, no.” And then Matt, of all people, took Nick’s side: “No, it’s okay, Sharon. Let him go. Let him do his thing. You do what you got to do, Nick. Might be the best thing for everyone. Might be my only way out.”
The fight Nick and Sharon actually had
Once Matt was out of earshot, the real argument started. Nick: “Sharon, the look on your face — you were terrified, and why wouldn’t you be? This is never going to stop because he won’t stop. He has terrorized this family for decades and he’s back to do it again.” Sharon: “I don’t think he is.” Nick: “Why? Because he got you to feel sorry for him because he’s poor, pathetic Matt now?” Sharon: “No, because I have seen the humanity in him. I’ve seen what he’s struggling with, and I know what he needs to do to stop it.”
Nick: “I trust you always, but how many chances does he get? Five, ten, fifty? Finding him here in your living room is the last straw.” Sharon, flatly: “Yeah, you’re right. This is my living room. And we are going to do this my way. Not yours.”
Sharon’s plan
Her way is not the police and it is not Nick’s fists. “Look at him. Take a good look at him, Nick. He is obviously psychologically damaged. He needs professional help.” Nick: “I don’t doubt that, but why does he need to come here?” Sharon: “Because I can get him into a clinic where he can get evaluated.” Nick’s comeback was the Patty Williams problem: “So that’s gonna fix him just like it fixed Patty Williams?”
Before either of them could win, Matt doubled over again, clutching his head. “Oh, just make it stop.” Nick, genuinely thrown: “What is going on? Why is he doing that? Is it an act?” Sharon: “I don’t know. I thought it was an act too, but it’s not.” Matt: “Honestly, I would rather be dead. Just let this end.” Sharon knelt beside him and made the promise that closes the episode: “You’re suffering and you’re trying to break free, but you need help to do that. And I’ll make sure you get it. I promise you that.”
Why Nick cannot let this go
Nick has every reason. Matt Clark raped Sharon as a teenager, framed Nick for his own shooting, and — per Soaps.com’s timeline — got Nick hooked on fentanyl after his 2025 return as Roger Howarth’s “changed man.” On Tuesday Nick promised Victor he was “ready to take on any threat against myself or this family.” Wednesday he found the threat in his ex-wife’s living room, and she told him to stand down.
What’s next
Entertainment Now’s spoilers for Thursday say Victor stays one step ahead of Victoria, and Sally begins her introduction into the Abbott family. Whether Matt actually makes it to Sharon’s clinic is not spelled out.
Your call: Team Sharon or Team Nick? Is a clinic the right answer for Matt Clark — or is Nick right that the man has used up every chance he will ever get?
